Different bumblebee species have different length tongues. We divide bumblebees into ‘short’ or ‘long-tongued’ species, and they will forage on different plants depending on their tongue length! The Early bumblebee (Bombus pratorum) has a short tongue and likes to forage on blackcurrents, raspberries, white clover, white deadnettle and borage. Just look at this Early bumblebee delving into the white jewel-like flowers of this Pieris! You can see it extending its tongue into the corolla of the fl
