The second baseman is never the cut/relay to third base and here’s why! This is a perfect example of why the SS is always the cut to third base on a routine base hit or fly ball to the outfield and the plays at third base. With a base hit we’re thinking two bases ahead of the lead runner. The SS drops into the grass as it allows him to see the base runners and decide whether to cut it or let it go.
