A grounded compressor is an effect of another issue. Lack of oil return takes out the bearings that allows rotor to run against the stator causing a short to ground. oil logged evaporator or suction line issues like improper size, too long, improper traps or risers. Liquid floodback causes it when it washes oil wash from the top bearing . Improper vacuum (dehydration) causes POE oil to turn to an acid leading to copper plating, and eating the varnish away from the windings. Liquid slugging from
